Elisa Bayraktarov

Xena Warrior Princess (she/her)

Program Manager

Elisa is a conservation scientist and data diplomat. She did her PhD in Ecology in 2013, and led the development of Australia’s Threatened Species Index from 2016 – 2020. As a Program Manager, Elisa oversees the work of a team of agile software engineers (DevOps), scientists, science communicators, trainers and analysts to make EcoCommons the platform of choice for environmental and ecological modelling.

Technical Lead & Solutions Architect

Arve has more than a decade working across a range of national and international research projects within the eResearch sector as a senior software engineer and analyst. He joined EcoCommons in May 2020, as the Technical Lead & Solutions Architect to ensure the platform is built on the best available technology and is interoperable with other systems.

Amanda Buyan

Ripley (she/her)

Data Analyst

Amanda is a Data Analyst based at the Atlas of Living Australia. She completed her PhD in Structural Biology, and uses her extensive Python skills to manage the integration of data, and works with the team on optimization of the available scientific workflows within the platform.

James Li

Senior Development Engineer

James joins EcoCommons from its precursor projects, the Biodiversity and Climate Change Virtual Laboratory (BCCVL) and ecocloud, bringing with him experience in virtual laboratories and research platforms. As Senior Development Engineer, he help oversee delivery of the powerful tools of the EcoCommons platform.

Seema Jadhav

Scarlet (she/her)

Developer Engineer

Seema has worked as a Full-stack Developer over the last few years, building applications and platforms using cloud technologies like AWS and Azure. She is interested in programming and developing end to end applications. Her current role as a Development Engineer for web applications applies her expertise to provide a better user experience.

Yong Liaw

Senior Programmer

As a Software Engineer, Yong works on EcoCommons’ back-end components to provide data and job management services to run ecological and spatial analytical functions on the Nectar cloud. He has extensive software development and modelling experience in both research and commercial industries. He previously worked on the BCCVL and ecocloud project.

Jéssica Fenker

Gamora (she/her)

R Programmer

Jess is an evolutionary scientist based at Atlas of Living Australia, with a postdoc on species delimitation methods and PhD on diversification at micro/macro scales. She brings her experience in R to improve the readability, data standardisation and performance of EcoCommons’ ecological modelling algorithms. Jess is also an advocate for diversity in STEMM.

Sean Haythorne

Hong Kong Phooey (he/him)

Research Software Engineer

Sean is a multidisciplinary Researcher and Software Engineer with a Master’s degree in Computer Science and a PhD in Ecological Modelling. One of his roles at our partner organisation CEBRA at The University of Melbourne, is to work closely with EcoCommons to translate and implement biosecurity features for the platform.

Abhimanyu Raj Singh

Functional Analyst

Abhimanyu is a zoologist that turned to environmental science focused on terrestrial ecology and species interactions. His MS majors are in environmental protection and climate change adaptation. As a Functional Analyst he facilitates testing strategies, provides user support, and develops species-based use cases for the EcoCommons platform.

Rob Clemens

Change & Communications Manager

Rob is an ecologist with experience in ornithology and spatial modelling. He earned a PhD at UQ and has worked on shorebird, and raptor research projects. Rob is responsible for overseeing training initiatives and implementing communication and stakeholder engagement strategies for EcoCommons.

Emilia Decker

Wonder Woman (she/her)

Business & Scientific Analyst

Emilia is an environmental scientist who wrote her PhD thesis on using ecoacoustics as a monitoring tool for freshwater systems and presented it at TEDx Byron Bay. As the Business & Scientific Analyst for EcoCommons, she reviews requirements and testing to ensure the platform is meeting planned milestones.

Development Engineer

Jesse is an innovative front end developer who has been working across multiple web projects at Griffith University. He has a master’s degree in Software Development. He is capable of continuous learning from senior developers and is passionate about learning and development with a desire to apply skills on a large development team at Griffith University.

Jenna is a conservation scientist with a PhD in Plant Ecology. Jenna previously held the position of Business and Scientific Analyst at EcoCommons. She now worksas the Training & Outreach Coordinator, with Science & Decision Support Team, at our partner organisation the Atlas of Living Australia.
